Karen Sharp and Robert Fowler Quintet

Karen Sharp and Robert Fowler, sax stars of the Humphrey Lyttelton Band, have recently joined forces to recreate the fantastic sound of two giants of the tenor saxophone, Al Cohn and Zoot Sims; producing some of the hardest swinging and most exhilarating sounds in jazz.

Originally Rober Fowler followed the path of a graphic design career but soon decided to join The Pasadena Roof Orchestra. International and national touring followed this, mostly travelling in Europe, UK and USA, which is where Robert developed his beautiful rich sound. Since leaving, Robert has worked with many bands such as The Great British Jazz band, The Syd Lawrence Orchestra, and The BBC Big band.

Whilst studying composition at the Royal Northern College of Music, Karen decided to take up the tenor saxophone. She relocated to London in 1999 and since then Karen has become a busy freelance musician working alongside many top class British and American musicians such as Scott Hamilton, Sir John Dankworth, Danny Moss, Alan Barnes, and Barbara Lea.

Soon after 2007 Karen and Robert joined forces to share their love of music and in particular the saxophone. Based on showcasing the works of Al Cohn and Zoot Sims they produced their album ‘Brandy and Beer’ in January 2009.
