Mitchell and Vincent are a Westcountry folk duo who bring traditional and contemporary styles on fiddle and guitar to folk tunes and songs from around the British Isles, as well as original material drawing on the folk traditions, producing their own varied arrangements and great foot-tapping folk music.

They have performed at various festivals and concerts around the UK (including Glastonbury, Broadstairs, Beverley, Oxford and Lyme Folk Weekend) as well as supporting great musicians such as Ralph McTell and Wizz Jones, Tim Edey Trio, Jackie Oates Duo and Kate Rusby. Acoustic magazine described their second album ‘Circling the Square’ with, “At all times, the interplay between David Mitchell’s guitar and Graham Vincent’s fiddle is quite stunning.” FATEA Magazine commented that Graham had a “pleasantly rich voice" and "You will find music that is beautifully played, with a delicacy and lightness of touch that immediately brings to mind Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill”.

Bright Young Folk has perhaps described them best with, “Their sound is much deeper and richer than you would expect from an acoustic duo. Intricate instrumentalism and pulsing rhythms abound ... providing skilled arrangements and expert delivery of tunes and songs which showcase the vibrancy, and variety, of folk music across Britain. A thoroughly engaging and enjoyable experience.”

Brazilian bluesman Big Gilson was one of the forerunners of the blues in Brazil and founder of the legendary Big Allanbik in 1991, one of the pioneering Brazilian blues bands.

He honed his chops gigging for many years in Brazil, Argentina, Europe and USA. He opened for Steve Winwood on his Brazilian tour, Johnny Winter and Johnny Rivers (70.000 people), and twice to the master B.B. King.

While touring America, and gigging at such clubs as Florida’s Bamboo Room, New York’s Blue Note, and all over Chi-town, Big Gilson knocked out such blues gods as Corey Harries, Duke Robillard, Lonnie Brooks, Magic Slim, Saffire, Walter “Wolfman” Washington and Buddy Guy, who extended the boy from Brazil an open invitation to play his Legends Club anytime. Big Gilson is a recording artist for Top Cat Records in Dallas Texas and Mississippi Delta Blues Records in Brazil.

By the Lempen Puppet Theatre Company

    Trunk, Tail, Ears or Wings?
Carnival creates itself from all sorts of things!

This is "Carnival of the Animals" but not as we know it. Dissected for body part potential to create the "ultimate animal", we take inspiration from the music by Camille Saint-Saëns, a little help from Charles Darwin and a whole lot of cardboard to mash up a show full of puppet possibility.

Inspiration and delight for everyone from 4 to 104.

With their own inimitable style Lempen have taken the fantastic music by Camille Saint-Saëns, and an exploration of the material of cardboard, to make a fun, visual production with no text, refreshingly focused on the simple magic of puppetry to leave audiences inspired by both the animal theatricality of the music and the creative potential of the simple cardboard box.

Award winning singer/songwriter Chris Cleverley is renowned for his ability to draw audiences to the edge of their seats with hauntingly delivered tales of ghost women, lonesome clock towers, lovelorn mariners and hospital beds.

Chris’ critically acclaimed debut album ‘Apparitions’ sailed into The Telegraph’s top 70 folk albums of 2015, while the national music press championed his unique song-writing and fingerstyle guitar techniques. Acoustic Guitar Magazine have hailed him as one to watch out for and the likes of fRoots, R2 and Folk Radio UK celebrate the raw, and at times unsettling honesty of his lyricism.

The contemporary style of his songwriting is grounded in the traditions and techniques of those who came before with clear influences from folk heavyweights like Martin Simpson, Nic Jones and Bert Jansch, while his arrangements of British and American traditional music reflect a strong affinity with the genre.

Since winning Bristol Folk Festival’s 2014 ‘Isambard Folk Award’, Chris’ national presence has grown exponentially, bringing his dynamic solo live sound to sell-out dates across the UK and over to the Continent too.

Sinnerboy, from North West England, are the No. 1 tribute to Rory Gallagher and have a huge reputation for faithfully recapturing the sound and excitement of a live “Rory gig”. They have played a major role in promoting the revival of Rory’s music for the last eighteen years and apart from gigging extensively in the UK and Ireland, have headlined Rory Gallagher tribute events in Holland, Belgium, Germany, Greece, Spain, Norway and the USA.

Playing live is what Sinnerboy do best. Anyone who has seen them will tell you, it's all about energy and passion, strong songs played with verve. But how else could you approach playing Rory's music?

Their repertoire feature songs from every stage of Rory's career including his early days with Taste. Bullfrog Blues, Walk On Hot Coals, Tattooed Lady, Shadow Play, Moonchild and many more are the essential ingredients of every Sinnerboy set.

For Sinnerboy, keeping the music of Rory Gallagher alive for people who love to hear it, is all that matters, but don't look for three guys on stage poncing about in wigs trying to look like three other guys, what you get with this band is all out passionate Rory Gallagher music!

Rory Gallagher, who sadly passed away in 1995, had a huge impact on the world of blues and rock and is recognized as Irelands first real ”rock star” - blazing the trail for many major Irish acts to follow on the international stage.

Apart from his reputation as one of the greatest ever exponents of the electric guitar, Rory left behind an enduring musical legacy which has received fresh recognition and attracted a whole new generation of younger fans over recent years. He was a prolific composer and in his lifetime recorded no fewer than fifteen albums of highly original and soulful blues and rock material.

On the first anniversary of Rory’s sad passing Barry Barnes promoted the first ever tribute concert to his lifelong hero, then in 2000 Barry went on to form ‘Sinnerboy’ with the sole intention of keeping Rory’s memory alive.

Still in his mid 20s, Jack Rutter (Moore Moss Rutter, Seth Lakeman band, Jackie Oates band) is a highly respected singer, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist making music within the British folk tradition.

The recent release of his debut solo album, which is a collection of eleven traditional folk songs, produced by Joe Rusby and recorded completely solo and live in the studio with no overdubs, has been received with across the board acclaim and recognition.

Critics are praising his traditional style of singing ‘beautifully sincere, timeless and beguiling’ (Songlines), and playing ‘guitar, bouzouki or concertina accompaniments are beautifully constructed and played – never getting in the way of the song, but supporting and building it’ (The Living Tradition Magazine) that have come together to create Hills, an album which ‘takes him to a whole new level, quite simply outstanding.’ (???? Dust off your armour and saddle the horses - Queens Park Arts Centre's traditional family pantomime is off on an epic Arthurian adventure...

Dark forces are stirring in the kingdom of Albion. The wicked Morgana La Fey is out to steal the throne from noble King Arthur, who is warned by a prophecy that there's a traitor in the court of Camelot.

Will King Arthur find the conspirator before it's too late? Will Morgana's quest for power succeed? And what will it take for Arthur's daughter Anwyn to prove she’s a worthy Knight of the Round Table?

There's only one way to find out...

Featuring memorable songs, riotous slapstick routines, plenty of audience participation and magical sets, costumes, puppets and props created by the artists and makers of Queens Park Arts Centre, this year’s panto is set to be bigger than ever.

The show is produced by Queens Park’s in-house production company Unbound, and once again features the talented students of the Susan Diane School of Dance.

The whole band, in its entirety, creates a luxurious and irresistible sound, displaying great skills and artistic finesse. Zoë Schwarz’ dynamic and commanding vocal delivery is both eclectic and suave at the same time; just like a chameleon, one part Janis Joplin, one Billie Holiday, and one Nina Simone.

The band’s exciting live set is based around rootsy originals: Strong catchy riffs, interesting arrangements, and exciting grooves featuring Rob Koral's electrifying, and unmistakable touch and flow on guitar. The highly accomplished rhythm section of Pete Whittaker-Hammond organ and Paul Robinson-drums (Nina Simone, Van Morrison, The Proclaimers, Paul McCartney to name a few) bring massive musical authority and the ability to push the music in unpredictable and exciting directions.

Zoë Schwarz Blue Commotion have made a considerable impact these last five years, and is one of the band’s that have added a fresh approach and vibrancy to the UK Blues. They are finalists in two categories in the 2018 UK Blues Awards.

The latest murder mystery event, by Karen Banfield.

It is Spring 1944 and there are plenty of posters giving dire warning that Careless Talk Costs Lives. The Morris family have taken this to heart and held on tightly to their secrets. But when they start being revealed, for one of them, their number’s up and everyone is a suspect.

At the end of act one, guests will be able to work as a team at their table to submit their first guess as to who the murderer is. After act two, they get their final chance to say ‘whodunnit’ and why. The format of the event is for the audience to sit back and enjoy a full length play. No questions are directed at any cast members and they do not mix with the audience. The team with the most points wins a prize.

The cast and crew are kindly donating the proceeds from the show to Queens Park Arts Centre’s ongoing fundraising appeal.
