Aylesbury Folk Club was launched in September 2015. The club meets twice a month on Friday nights and is coordinated and hosted by Amanda Diamond and Eddy Richards, two well-known faces on the folk scene. As well as ‘Guest Nights’ featuring some of the country’s best-loved folk artists, the club also arranges ‘Folk in the Annexe’ meetings – friendly gatherings in one of our studio spaces where anyone can get up and perform, or sit and watch.
Unbound is our storytelling programme. Since 2014 the project has been providing learning and practical opportunities for students of all ability levels in drama, creative writing and theatre studies. Coordinated by writer and director Dario Knight in collaboration with experienced practitioners including David Pustansky and Claire Steele, Unbound offers regular drop-in workshops as well as theatrical productions, including the hugely-popular Queens Park Pantomime.
Our community outreach project – the WanderHouse – was unveiled in 2013. Led by artist Pippa North, the project is a collaborative programme of activities working alongside local schools and youth organisations to create inspiring artwork and installations in the local community. Recent collaborations have taken place with Berryfields School, the Bucks Young Carers and Oak Green School, ranging from art & craft workshops at the Centre to large-scale installations.
Most recently, the Centre has started to offer Pottery Parties for children and adults, which offer the chance to celebrate special occasions by getting creative.
The Centre has a Coffee Shop
catering primarily to workshop users but also, during the daytime, to members of the public who can stop by and see what’s going on at the Centre. We serve tea and fresh coffee as well as a range of savoury and sweet snacks. We have recently added a selection of sandwiches and hot food including paninis, and will be introducing a variety of soups during the autumn term. The space also serves as the fully-licensed Limelight Bar during theatre performances, serving bottled beer, wine and spirits. Our Art Shop stocks a good range of art materials and resources, ideal for students picking up supplies for workshops or to use on projects at home. Items on offer include a wide choice of papers and paints, pencils and charcoal, pottery tools, sketchbooks and much more.
