    This fantastic new workshop is ideal for anyone with an interest in painting with oils, whether a practised hand or a beginner working in the medium for the first time.

    Tutor Michael Navaro is a local artist who has been practicing for several years in various media, predominately oils. His works range from landscapes to pop art and murals.

    Three-week course: 8, 15, 22 Oct, 1:30pm - 3:30pm
    with Leila Ward

    This course will give you an introduction to watercolours.

    It is suitable for beginners, those returning to using watercolours, or those wanting to try out different techniques.

    You will learn some of the basic techniques such as blending, washes, and wet on wet to paint a range of subjects.

    Materials

    For an additional charge of £28 you can purchase a materials bundle, which can be collected from QPAC ahead of the course. The bundle includes:

    - Watercolour paint set (including two brushes)
    - White gouache
    - Watercolour A4 pad
    - Masking fluid

    In addition, students will need to provide:
    - Water pot
    - Masking tape
    - Paper towels
    - Mixing palette (a plate is sufficient)
    - Small natural painting sponge
    - Pencil
    - Rubber
    - Ruler
    - Drawing board (if you have one) this could be a piece of foam board big enough to tape your paper to.

    What to bring if you don’t have the materials bundle:
    - Selection of watercolour paints (either pans or tubes)
    - White gouache paint (small tube)
    - Selection of brushes (such as DalerRowney size 10 and 2 round, and at least one flat brush 1/2 inch - 1 inch)
    - A4 Watercolour paper pad (minimum 250 gsm cold pressed/NOT paper)
    - Water pot (old tall plastic tubs work well for this such as soup tubs!)
    - Masking tape
    - Masking fluid (ideally frisk masking fineliner/ needle tip)
    - Paper towels
    - Mixing palette
    - Small painting sponge
    - Pencil
    - Rubber
    - Ruler
    - Fine tip waterproof black drawing pen

    In this course you will learn how to draw a different animal each week. Tutor Leila Ward will take you through step by step how to achieve this.

    Subjects will include a British bird, a rabbit/hare, and a cat.

    This workshop is aimed at beginners to drawing, and art in general, and those looking to improve their drawing skill. Adults (age 13 years +)

    DRAWING & PAINTING with Amanda Curbishley
    Every Thursday, 10:00am – 12:00pm

    For ages 16+

    Explore and develop your creativity as a member of this friendly group. Work from still life or the subject of your choice, in your chosen media (e.g. pencil, charcoal, acrylics, watercolour). We also do occasional projects to encourage exploration of techniques and development of skills by looking at the work of different artists (Picasso, Matisse, Fedden) or through more specific themes such as perspective.

    For all levels including beginners. Bring your own materials. All materials are available to buy from Queens Park Arts Centre’s shop.

    About the Tutor
    Amanda Curbishley joined the Queens Park Centre as a member of this group in 2002 and has gone on to exhibit and sell work at local exhibitions. She wants to share the enjoyment she has from painting and encourage others to develop their skills.

    Three-week course: 4, 11, 18 Nov, 10:30am - 12:30pm

    This course will introduce you to beginner drawing techniques- looking at equipment, how to show depth through shading and perspective, and how to draw through identifying shape, form and texture.

    This workshop is aimed at beginners to drawing, and art in general, and those looking to improve their drawing skill. Adults (age 13 years +)

    Students should bring a selection of pencils (H, HB, 2B, 4B, 6B), an A4 sketch pad, a rubber, a pencil sharpener and a ruler.

    Learn the basic techniques of painting with acrylics.
    This course will give you an introduction to acrylic painting. It is suitable for beginners, those returning to acrylics, or those wanting to try out different techniques with acrylic paint.
    You will be taught, step- by- step, techniques such as colour mixing, washes, and impasto through painting a range of subjects.

    What to bring
    - A selection of acrylic paints
    - Selection of brushes – rounds (small and larger), and flat brushes
    - Palette knife
    - A3 or A4 acrylic paper (such as Daler Rowney Mixed media 250g/m paper)
    - Water pot (old tall plastic tubs work well for this such as soup tubs!)
    - Masking tape
    - Mixing palette – old polystyrene circles from frozen pizza packaging work well!
    - Paper towels
    - Pencil
    - Rubber
    - Ruler
