    Friday 6th March 2020, 10:30am - 2:30pm
A special study day for KS2 students, presented by the British Film Institute

Celebrate black history at Queen’s Park Arts Centre by joining us as we explore the role that black filmmakers, musicians, scientists and many more have played in our British history and beyond.

We will begin the study day by looking back to before Windrush and then watch the film Jemima and Johnny (1966), a beautiful black and white film set in Notting Hill. Pupils will be challenged to discuss the issues raised by the film and to engage with the themes and historical context. We will end with a celebration of the numerous role models that are present in today’s society including an inspirational guest speaker.

BOOKINGS: This event is for school parties and teachers. You can book over the phone via 01296 424332 to avoid online booking fees.

DISCOUNTS are available for schools participating in the BFI/ Rothschild film education project - call 01296 424332 for details.

Take a voyage with us into well-known book adaptations from Harry Potter, through Arrietty, and to The BFG.

Using opening sequences, book and screenplay extracts, we will look at how prose is transposed into script, moving image and sound. We will also explore the themes of the texts: giants, magic, dreams and the difference a small child can make in a big world.

Suitable drama tasks will also be included in a range of interactive pupil activities. The afternoon includes an introduced screening of Spielberg’s The BFG (2016).
